Are you an enthusiastic dive professional who wants to do more for shark and marine conservation? Do you want to be more involved with  education and research projects?

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!The Shark Guardian Dive Leader is either a staff member of a registered Shark Guardian Dive Center or a professional diver volunteering directly for Shark Guardian in their local dive community and location. Shark Guardian Dive Leaders are individuals who express a great deal of enthusiasm and passion for shark and marine conservation. These individuals are actively involved with Shark Guardian educational programs, citizen science research projects and help organize events. Still think this is for you?

The roles and responsibilities of the Shark Guardian Dive Leader will differ slightly depending on if you:

  1. Are working within a Shark Guardian Dive Center as a part time or full time staff member
  2. Are working as a freelance dive professional in a dive community or location

 

1. Shark Guardian Dive Leader working within a Shark Guardian Dive Center 

Purpose and Role

1)  Ensure that the Shark Guardian Dive Center follows the Shark Guardian Dive Center Code of Conduct and Responsibilities 

2)  Be the main point of contact within the Shark Guardian registered Diving Center and accomplish the following objectives and responsibilities

Objectives and Responsibilities

Communication: 

  • To be the main point of contact appointed by respective Dive Center managers/owners 
  • Relay all dive centre related matters concerned with Shark Guardian back to us 
  • Regular updates showing your dive centers active involvement with Shark Guardian 
  • At least ONCE a month, blog or share an image or video on your Dive Center social media with a link to Shark Guardian social media (Shark Guardian Facebook, Twitter or Instagram)

Projects and Activities:

  • Involved in Shark Guardian events such as presentation evenings, fund raisers and social events which may be held in your Dive Center location 
  • Actively involve other members of your dive center to promote Shark Guardian news, events and education programs 
  • Conduct presentations with, and direct others to use the Shark Guardian Flip Chart. The flip chart can be used for briefings on the dive boat and/or in the dive shop for diving guests and students Research and Citizen Science Projects. 
  • Be familiar and actively involved with the promotion and implementation of ongoing Shark Guardian research projects and citizen science projects within your dive center and its members. Current Shark Guardian Projects include:
    1) The eShark Project
    2) Spot the Leopard Shark Project
    3)Whale Shark Project

Additional information for each project will be sent to you including the goals, values and instructions. it will be your responsibility to ensure that all members of the dive center are familiar with the project and are actively contributing to it.

Shark Guardian Shop Display & Stock Management 

  • Manage or assist shop management with Shark Guardian merchandise including stock control and ordering.
  • Create and maintain a shark conservation area of your dive center to utilize and display Shark Guardian promotional and educational materials including posters and information leaflets.

2. Shark Guardian Dive Leader volunteering directly for Shark Guardian

Purpose and Role

1)  Be the main point of contact with Shark Guardian while accomplishing the following objectives and responsibilities while working as a professional dive educator in your location and dive community.

Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Be familiar and actively involved with the promotion and implementation of ongoing Shark Guardian research projects and citizen science projects. Current Shark Guardian Projects include: 
  • The eShark Project 
  • Spot the Leopard Shark Project
  • Whale Shark Project 

Additional information for each project will be sent to you including the goals, values and instructions.

  • At least ONCE a month, blog or share an image or video with Shark Guardian on your recent activities promoting the amazing conservation work you are doing.
  • Involved in Shark Guardian events such as presentation evenings, fund raisers and social events which may be held in your location 
  • Use the Shark Guardian Flip Chart for briefings on the dive boat and/or in the dive shop for diving guests and students. 

Shark Guardian Dive LeaderHow to become and Shark Guardian Dive Leader

1. If you are working in a Shark Guardian Dive Center you may be appointed as the Shark Guardian Dive Leader by the dive center owner(s) or management team. Please contact your management team if you are interested to be their Shark Guardian Dive Leader. Alternatively please contact us and we will be in touch with you and your dive center shortly. if your dive center is not registered as a Shark Guardian Dive Center you can APPLY TO BE A SHARK GUARDIAN DIVE CENTER

2. If you are an enthusiastic dive professional who wants to do more for shark and marine conservation in terms of education and research projects – this is just for you! There might not be Shark Guardian Dive Centers in your location but you can still help promote the cause. Please contact us directly to apply for the Shark Guardian Dive Leader membership.
