"I've been drawing sharks for as long as I can remember. My parents have artwork saved from when I was a child - most of it contains a shark, octopus, mermaid, or some other sea creature! Drawing has always been something I have enjoyed and it was actually a form of physical therapy when I was fresh into this world. I was born with Erb's Duchenne Palsy and did not gain use of my right arm until after I was 1 year old. Long before I ever had the ability to grasp a marker on my own, someone was helping me hold one. When I tell people 'I was born to drawn' - the real depth here is that it's actually quite true. Those first scribbles have brought me endless hours of joy and peace. I don't think there has ever been a time when I didn't want to draw. I will always live with limited mobility, but I've never let that stop me. Learning, growing, and adapting is just part of living your best life. I always look forward to tackling the next challenge.
I created Sharktopia just after my 30th Birthday. My art had been 'random' up to that point, but 3+ years ago it seemed to be evolving into something with more direction. I realized that people would react quite emotionally to some of my illustrations. The art seemed to become vital - it could really reach people. Every time I get tagged in a Sharktopia sketch that has been shared online - it makes me so grateful and proud. I'm incredibly thankful for all of the continued support.
I am aiming to bring Sharktopia (and myself) to Thailand as soon as I'm able. Like many other artists, I have a regular full-time job unrelated to Sharktopia. It has been a lifelong goal of mine to become a full-time artist. For now, I create art whenever I am not working. I will be collaborating with Shark Guardian from afar on plenty of awareness and educational materials - including more coloring pages and activities!"
