DIVER

Introduction

Conservation, Education, Research and Expeditions are the four operational arms of Shark Guardian founded by professional divers, shark researchers and conservationists. Building on our education projects, we are very proud to offer this program to anyone who is interested to learn more about sharks and get immediately involved and active in shark research for conservation.

Anyone can participate and complete the Shark Guardian Diver program while scuba diving, snorkeling or even paddle boarding. The Shark Guardian Diver program can be combined with any ongoing scuba diving, free diving or snorkeling course or when these activities are being done recreationally.

 

Only Shark Guardian Dive Centers can conduct the Shark Guardian Diver Program. The Shark Guardian Diver is not a dive certification and therefore participants do not receive a diver certification card. However participants do receive a certificate of completion once they have fully completed the program.

STRUCTURE

Program Structure

The Shark Guardian Diver Program has 3 SECTIONS 

participants need to complete

Learn more about:

  • The role of sharks in the ecosystem

  • How to dive or snorkel with sharks

  • Threats to sharks and how to help

  • How to contribute to citizen science and research

  • Get involved and support Shark Guardian

SECTION ONE: Education

SECTION TWO: Activity

  • Go scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding or beach walking 

  • Record observations of sharks, rays, turtles, dolphins, whales, seals, sea horses and jelly fish

  • Take photographs for specific research projects

  • Record observations of marine debris, nets or garbage

  • Record observations of natural and human induced threats to marine life

SECTION THREE: Research

  • Record your observations to the data collections sheet

  • Upload recorded observations to the online data base related to the citizen science research project

  • Upload shark images with 'ID Area' to the related citizen science research project

  • Provide information for any local projects taking place

  • Take a group picture and send to Shark Guardian to share your success!
