Third Quarter Review

Updated: Oct 15, 2020

A round up of the activities and projects the Shark Guardian team have been involved in over the last few months. From the Sardine Run in South Africa to events in schools, shark awareness and research in the Philippines - all in the aid of saving our sharks!

July 2018

SARDINE RUN - SOUTH AFRICA

Shark Guardians’ 3rd annual Sardine Run Expedition took place at the start of July 2018! This year was a shark, whale and fish filled adventure once again in collaboration with Crystal Divers South Africa! Stay tuned for the 2019 Run details that will soon be published.

SHARK GUARDIAN EVENTS Shark Guardian Charity Directors Brendon Sing and Elizabeth Ward-Sing were busy in July sharing shark education with volunteers and the general public at events in Ao Nang, Krabi. Meanwhile on Shark Awareness Day, linked dive centers around the world were helping spread Shark Guardian education and awareness via mini presentations and diver programs.

August 2018

SHARK GUARDIAN IN THE PHILIPPINES

Brendon Sing connected with our 3 Shark Guardian Dive Centers on Malapascua Island in the Philippines and was fortunate to see some beautiful thresher sharks whilst diving! With eOceans now being implemented in these waters, we look forward to receiving important data on the frequency of Thresher shark sightings as well as other marine life.

SCHOOL EVENTS IN THAILAND

Charity Directors continued to share shark education and inspire local children in Krabi, Thailand with more presentations. Several hundred of the Shark Guardian Childrens Book ‘Sharks – Our Ocean Guardians’, in Thai, have now been donated to Thailand schools with more events planned for the end of 2018.

SWIM4SHARKS EVENT ON KOH TAO, THAILAND

The annual Swim4Sharks on Koh Tao island, Thailand, led by Shark Guardian Dive Center Big Blue Diving was once again held at the end of August. Director Elizabeth Ward-Sing kicked off the event with a well-attended presentation evening alongside Koh Tao Whale Sharks’ Kirsty Magson. Then it was 2 days of swimming for sharks, including a very fun children’s event. Shark Guardian are extremely grateful for the donation this event generates to the charity each year, helping the Directors continue to share shark and marine conservation, education and research worldwide.

September 2018

Director Brendon Sing visited 2 International Schools in Phuket, Thailand to deliver exciting shark talks to 500 children. UWC Thailand and KISP Academy were wonderful hosts and ensured the whole schools learnt more about sharks, marine life and how they can all get involved to save sharks and the oceans. Check out these awesome follow up posters created by KISP students to help educate others following their educational sessions.

Looking ahead to the last quarter of 2018!!

Things may go a little quiet in October as Shark Guardian Directors prepare for the arrival of their second child this month. However a local event in Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand is being squeezed in on 5th October as well as the annual Aquamaster event in Phuket, Thailand on the 12th.

In November more local Thai schools will receive a dose of shark education plus lots of childrens books. And as always our dive centers worldwide will continue to share and spread messages on the teams’ behalf!

As the Thailand scuba diving high season approaches we wish all our Thailand Dive Centers a fabulous season ahead. And don’t forget to stay tuned to our social media for information on a new South African shark expedition!
